AUP Politics Association (AUPPA)

The AUPPA is the representative student body within the department of International and Comparative Politics. We organize events such as lectures, fundraisers, documentary screening and debates, concerning issues in international relations and politics. We also organize other events for the department such as the open house, pre-registration information sessions, and a yearly departmental dinner. As of fall 2007 we also publish our monthly paper, The Political, with news, analyses, and opinions on international issues and world events.

This year the AUPPA will have a bit of a new theme. Being very interested in human rights and humanitarian issues, I have decided to make this the focus of our events. Last semetser we had lecture on female genital cutting by Tostan, an organization which works to empower African communities to bring about sustainable development and positive social transformation based on respect for human rights. We  also hosted an event about genocide and the failure to stop the genocide in Rwanda, as well as a fundraiser for the organization Invisible Children.

This spring we have already hosted an event with Pascal Turlan, advisor to the Prosecutor's Office at the International Criminal Court at the Hague. We will also organize the Annual AUPPA Conference, where two students chosen by a committee of professors present their research papers to faculty and fellow students. There will also be a debate between professors at the ICP and Economics department as well as a pre-registration advising session with professors from the ICP department.

If you are interesting in organizing an event, promoting an issue, writing for The Political, or want to get involved in other ways, please come to our weekly meetings on Wednesdays, at 18h30 in G-21, unless otherwise announced.

I look forward to seeing you at our meetings or upcoming events,

Ebba Lekvall

AUPPA President
