Roots & Shoots at AUP is part of a larger global youth movement. The Roots & Shoots program, from the Jane Goodall Institute, is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world.
Roots & Shoots at AUP is important because it is a service club dedicated to working in the human community, the animal community, and the environment. We try to do at least one project in each area every semester and because of this there is bound to be something for all interests at Roots & Shoots at AUP.
We have many projects planned for this semester. We have already donated 260 euros (from our first bake sale of the year) to AUP’s contribution to earthquake relief in Haiti. Other important projects this semester include organizing the rest of the bi-weekly bake sales (next on Monday February 8!) which raise funds for R&S’ three scholarship students in Tanzania and – starting this semester – two in Afghanistan, a makeover of some (currently empty) planting spaces in the Grenelle building, and work with a bilingual school near AUP to teach its students about urban wildlife.
Come to the first official meeting of the Spring 2010 semester - Thursday February 4 at 18h30 in the ARC - to find out more, or email Anjali Mathai, R&S' president for this semester, at anjali.mathai@aup.fr any time with questions or comments.
