Access the AUP network and the Internet

The AUP network is accessible in:

  • Staff offices
  • Computer labs and the Academic Resource Center (Grenelle building)
  • Lounges in the (Combes and Bosquet buildings)
  • In the AUP Library Research Room and Reading Room
  • All AUP buildings, from a wireless-enabled computer

Network cable

It provides access to the Internet and to local resources such as printing and networked file storage.

Please note that certain local network resources are not accessible from non-AUP personal computers (for example, printing).

Connecting your personal computer to the network

Users connecting to the network with their personal computer should use wireless. Personal computers must not be connected directly with a cable to a campus network jack.

Internet port restrictions

For reasons of network security and performance, we only authorize network traffic on specific "ports." We specifically disallow ports used by certain services such as peer-to-peer file-sharing, which would have a severe impact on network performance if we allowed them.

The vast majority of Web sites function on a standard port (number 80), but some may function on non-standard ports. If you need access through a port that isn't open, please contact the HelpDesk and we will investigate whether or not we can open the port.
