The AUP Wireless Network

Members of the AUP community and authorized guests can access the University wireless ("Wi-Fi") network from all campus buildings.

Requirements

The AUP wireless network uses WPA-Enterprise security, so you must have a wireless card that supports this standard. New computers will almost certainly come with an appropriate card, and cards that are under two or three years old are likely to be compatible. If you have an older network card and are unsure whether it is WPA ready, try searching on the manufacturer's web site, or contact the HelpDesk (providing the manufacturer, model number, and any other information) and we will look into it for you. Though we make every effort to ensure compatibility with a wide range of equipment, the University cannot take responsibility for wireless cards that are not compatible with our network configuration. You must have an active NetID in order to connect to the network.

Specific software and hardware requirements

We support the following configurations:

  • Operating system: Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • Anti-Virus: Windows machines must have up-to-date anti-virus software installed (you can use AUP's licensed McAfee Anti-Virus)
  • A WPA-Enterprise compatible 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11b/g Wi-Fi network card

Note that you may also be able to connect using other devices (for example, smartphones, PDAs or Linux computers) but we may not be able to provide support for these configurations.
