Connect to the AUP wireless (wifi) network: Windows XP

Requirements

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 2
  • Up-to-date anti-virus software installed (you can use AUP's licensed McAfee Anti-Virus)
  • A WPA-Enterprise compatible 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11b/g Wi-Fi network card

Configuration

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel by opening the Start Menu and selecting Control Panel

  2. Double-click Network and Internet Connections.
    Note: If you are using the Classic View (rather than the Category View), double-click Network Connections and go directly to Step 4.

  3. Double-click Network Connections.

  4. Right-click Wireless Network Connection and select the Properties entry in the pop-up menu.

  5. Select the Wireless Networks tab and click the Add button.

  6. Enter AUP as the Network Name. Choose WPA for Network Authentication and TKIP for Data Encryption.
    Note: If the WPA option is not available, either you haven't installed Service Pack 2 or your wireless card doesn't support WPA.

  7. Select the Authentication tab. Choose Protected EAP (PEAP) as EAP type. Deselect the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available option. Press the Properties button.

  8. Deselect the Validate server certificate option and select Enable Fast Reconnect. Press the Configure... button.

  9. Deselect the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) option and click the OK button in each of the windows to close them.

  10. Restart your computer. After logging on to your computer, you are prompted to log on to the AUP wireless network. Enter your NetID and password, and type AUP as the Logon domain.

  11. You are now connected to the AUP wireless network.

    Note: Please disregard any networks other than AUP (you may see networks named AUP-xxx).

Basic troubleshooting

  • If you reach Step 10 but after rebooting your computer the credentials window does not pop up: you misconfigured the connection. Please review the previous steps.
  • If you reach Step 11 but aren't connected due to a credential error, there is a problem with your NetID. Please contact the Helpdesk.
