Dear Students,
With the University League competition in its full swing I have the honour to announce the developments of our competitive sports teams:
The male Volleyball team has qualified itself for the Niveau 2 excellence round, which means that they have the chance to get promoted to the 1st division, should they perform as last semester: unbeaten in all 5 group games our Volleyball guys are still the one team you don't want to be opposed to. But be aware: Some teams will see a special challenge in trying to win a game against us!
The female Volleyball team has made its debut, and is looking forward to establish themselves now in the Niveau 3 promotion excellence. They are expected to do well this semester, as the team grew together more and more. There is also still a little payback due: someone remembers CACHAN? This time we will play them in Paris though, and they better not be late!
The Equestrians will have a busy schedule and after the departure of Elizabeth Saleh, our show jumping queen, there are still some riders who could potentially make it to the finals in the two disciplines dressage and show jumping. Our instructor Matthieu at the Haras de Jardy should also have a significant impact on the performances of our riders this semester.
The Indoor Soccer team (male) will play another tournament after unfortunately not making it into the top ten, but expects this time to have more support from AUP's student body! The tournaments are very well organized and a lot of fun to watch. With your support the team should be able to do better than last tournament (2 draws, 2 losses). If everyone stays healthy, I can already predict a great second half of the season.
The Basketball-guys will have a lot of reinforcement after a less successful qualification round: Antal Neville, MIP of 2008, has announced an eventual comeback to help out the team. Some help will also come from me, as I will offer my services as coach again. The objective is clear: the 1st place in the weak division we qualified for and the improvement of fundamentals to build up on the semesters to come.
Also the “Fun Sports” offer is being enlarged: A brand new Aerobics course and eventually a “Self Defense”-class will be added to the already existing Fun Sports at AUP. Anyone can find an activity to stay in shape while having fun. Just check the list of “Fun Sports” already offered at AUP: Flag Football, Tennis, Table tennis, Salsa, Yoga, Running (short and long distance).
The highlight events of this semester organized by the Sports Office will be the Beirut trip (only for competitive sports team members), Poker tournament, Bowling Night and the Sports Awards Celebration. Please check the news on this site regularly to not miss out on any of these events!
For more information on any of the activities within the sports program just click on the links to your left or send an email to sports@aup.fr. Don't hesitate to stop by the office in G-22 to sign up for an activity, or simply talk about sports. The Sports Office contact information is also located on the bottom right of your page.
A healthy and successful 2010 for all of you,
Your Sports Coordinator,
Ashkan Shalbaf
