The standard semester course is four courses with a maximum of 18 credits. Undergraduate students wishing to enroll in more than 18 credits may request an overload. Academic and financial rules in regards to overloads apply as follows:
Academic and Financial Rules - Please read carefully
Fall and Spring semesters:
- A student with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above earned at the University may be permitted to register for a semester credit load greater than 18 credits. Semester overloads may be requested and are reviewed for approval DURING the drop/add period.
Degree Candidates
- Degree Candidates who submitted a degree application for the semester for which they are requesting an overload will be allowed to do so during Last Chance Registration (after all students have been able to register by college level).
Summer term:
- A student with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above may be permitted to register for a summer credit load greater than 11 credits. Summer term overloads may be requested and are reviewed for approval during summer registration and through the drop/add period.
Rules applying to all semesters:
- Zero credit internships are not considered overload courses.
- Permission to carry on overload places full responsibility on the student for meeting all requirements for each course taken; NO special consideration for grading can be expected.
- You will be able to register for the overload course on a space-available basis only.
- Extra tuition is charged for an overload on a per-credit basis. For example, if you register for a fifth 4-credit course totaling 20 semester credits, you will be billed for the entire fifth course, i.e. 4 credits. See current tuition rates here.
- You will receive an electronic receipt once you submit this overload request.
- Your registration request will be processed and then subsequently approved or denied on the second day of class at 17:00. If the request is approved, you are then responsible for adding a 5th class to your class schedule.
