Advising for Visiting Students

Welcome visiting students! We hope to help you take advantage of the many exciting academic, cultural and personal experiences that await you at AUP.

You are encouraged to choose from the broad array of courses offered each semester at AUP. These credits will help you advance in your degree program at your home institution by satisfying general education courses and major/minor requirements, in addition to electives that enable you to benefit from both Paris as your classroom and our interdisciplinary curriculum.

Once you have read this entire section, which is required before you are able to register, be sure to click on the acknowledgement button at the end of the section. This will permit you to move on to register for classes.

Choosing your courses

While AUP can provide assistance with your course selection, you will be best served by working with your own advisor at your home institution, as our advisors will not be able to determine how courses will transfer back as part of your degree program.

A few things to note before you begin this course selection process with your home advisor:

  • The standard load at AUP is 16 credits. This means four 4-credit courses. A student may take up to 18 credits as a full-time student.  Due to visa restrictions, visiting students must maintain the minimum full-time load of 12 credits.
  • Pay attention to pre-requisites. To ensure that you are prepared for the AUP courses you select, we need to verify that you have taken coursework at your home institution that is equivalent to our pre-requisites.

After working with your advisor at your home institution please complete the Online Course Selection Form. An AUP advisor will review your course registration requests on this form and register you directly into your courses. Please note that you will need to prepare the submission of this online registration form with your Advisor and/or your Study Abroad Program Coordinator. A copy of this webform submission will be automatically sent to them.

Upon your arrival on campus, you will be assigned to a dedicated visiting student advisor who can provide recommendations and guidelines adapted to your specific needs as a visting student. Your advisor will be able to assist you throughout your studies at AUP with any questions you might have.
