IMPORTANT: You are not expected to apply for your metro pass before you arrive in Paris. This is just an informational video to help you prepare.

When you arrive in Paris, you will need to determine how you are going to move around the city. If you are planning to take public transportation often you might want to get an annual subscription. This subscription is cheaper than single tickets, and it is even cheaper for students. The Navigo Imagine R pass allows you to take public transportation, without limits, in the Paris region.  However, bear in mind that you cannot cancel your subscription. Some students might prefer to get an Easy Navigo. This kind of pass allows you to charge single trips and it is not time based. This Navigo is easier to obtain as you can buy it at any metro station. We recommend this pass for students that are not planning to use public transportation on a daily basis.

You will need a French phone number and a French bank card in order to subscribe, however foreign cards are sometimes accepted.

If you are a student under 26 years of age, you can apply for a yearlong Imagine R card. It is a discounted card and gives you unlimited access to the Paris region transportation (metro, RER, bus, tramways). The cost is 350 euros for the year.

You can apply for the Imagine R card online on Navigo.fr (see video above).

If you are 26 years of age or more, or in Paris for one semester only, unfortunately you cannot subscribe for this discounted card, you will have to buy a Navigo Pass. You can purchase this pass in any metro station, you will have to bring some ID, have enough money (cash or card) to pay for the first month (76 euros).
