Surréalismes Paris 2024 is the sixth conference of the International Society for the Study of Surrealism (ISSS) which aims to facilitate interdisciplinary and inter-regional exchanges on surrealism through various events (symposia, forums, exhibitions) and publications.

The ISSS promotes the study of surrealism in all its meanings and dimensions, and presents new approaches to its artistic, literary and other expressions. The ISSS congress contributes to the creation of an international network of researchers, artists and writers from all continents working in the field.

The ISSS Surréalismes Paris 2024 congress will be held in Paris, France on October 28 – 29 – 30, 2024, at the campus of the American University of Paris (AUP), in partnership with the German Center for Art History (DFK, Paris), the Université Jean Monnet Lyon-Saint-Étienne (ECLLA) and the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle.

2024 is a special year, commemorating the centennial of André Breton’s First Manifesto, the publication of Louis Aragon’s Une Vague de rêves and the launch of the journal La Révolution surréaliste in the autumn of 1924. On this occasion, numerous cultural events focusing on Surrealism (exhibitions, symposium, readings, publications) will take place in France. Beyond the commemoration, the Paris conference will follow up on the work accomplished in the five past ISSS annual conferences. The goal is to emphasize the vitality of Surrealism, to reflect on its continuous internationalization from the origins to now. In addition to academic sessions and round tables, it will feature other events: film projections, poetry readings, a visit to the Surrealism exhibition at the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou, and others.

This is the ISSS Paris 24 conference fee, the ISSS membership must be paid on the ISSS website: https://surrealismstudies.org/join/
