Thank you for your interest in AUP’s policies for our US-based employees. Please note that this site is under construction and some information listed may be out of date or otherwise incomplete while we work to bring you updates on our range of benefit offerings. In the meantime, please direct your questions to humanresourcesaup.edu so that we can answer your requests individually. Thank you!
AUP employees in the US benefit from 11 federal holidays each year, as follows:
They also benefit from the Friday following Thanksgiving and five days’ holiday between Christmas and New Year (the five working days occurring between 26 December and 31 December) each year.
Employees are entitled to 10 days of paid sick leave each year. For longer periods of illness, short-term disability insurance provides benefits after a waiting period of 8 days. Unused sick leave is lost at the end of the calendar year.
Employees are entitled to vacation as follows:
When planning vacation, the supervisor’s agreement must be sought before making plans and reservations.
An “Out of Office” message must be placed on Outlook during vacations, referring correspondents to the appropriate contact person.
Vacation is accrued over a period running from 1 June of year N-1 through 31 May of year N, to be taken during the period from 1 June of year N through 31 May of year N+1. Vacation not used by the cut-off date of 31 May of year N+1 will be lost.
Employees are occasionally called upon to work during weekends or holidays due to school fairs, etc.
When this situation occurs, each day worked gives rise to one day of recuperation time
Recuperation time will be credited only with the supervisor’s approval, and must be used before the end of the calendar year during which it is accrued
Employees who wish to take advantage of a professional trip to spend the weekend on site may be permitted to do so at the supervisor’s discretion and at their own expense. Such extensions of the trip are not considered to be working time, and do not give rise to recuperation time.

Tuition Exchange is a program that allows dependents of AUP employees the opportunity to pay either reduced tuition or to have tuition fees completely covered when enrolling at participating partner colleges & universities around the world. Employees’ children under the age of 27 benefit from a 100% reduction of tuition fees for undergraduate courses without any seniority requirement. An eligibility certification form must be completed and submitted to HR for validation prior to each year of participation in the Tuition Exchange program. Applications to the partner institutions must follow all guidelines set by the individual institutions and be submitted via the Tuition Exchange platform, linked below. There is a total maximum of 8 semesters of participation. Eight semesters for entering first-year students, 6 semesters for upcoming sophomores, 4 semesters for rising juniors. Summer courses are excluded. Students must first apply and BE ACCEPTED BY the host institution, and then apply specifically to the Tuition Exchange scholarship, all done through Tuition Exchange’s application portal. AUP’s participation in Tuition Exchange does not guarantee a student to be accepted by a host institution. Students must apply and be admitted in order to qualify for the tuition reduction benefit. The scholarship is set to a maximum of $42,000 per academic year. This is exclusively for tuition fees, and is not set to cover housing, health, orientation, or other specific fees. More information on Tuition Exchange can be found here. The list of participating institutions can be found here.
In hardship situations, the University will lend up to one month’s net salary which can be reimbursed over a maximum period of one year. Employees who wish to request a loan should make an appointment with the Director of Human Resources. All appointments are strictly confidential.
